There’s nothing you can do to make God love you anymore and nothing you can do to make Him love you any less. When we obey, that is loving God more, but our obedience does not cause God to love us more. Doing well is not a question of getting better, but a realization that I’m growing in Christ’s image! Measuring ourselves by “getting better as a Christian” is failed viewpoint because our spiritual life becomes focused on achievements rather than growing a more intimate relationship. It is a childhood misconception where security comes from my measured production of a “spiritual life” rather than trust by faith in His life in me. It really is a question of resting in the truth that I belong to God through Christ.
Ephesians 1:6(NLT) So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. Because of what Christ has done, why waste time and effort to reclaim the past when it would be much better for us to focus on creating the future. (This is the intro message as we celebrated our Veteran’s during this service.)
